Steinway/S.S. United States correspondence and notes, 1946- 1952.

This collection contains written notes and typed correspondence concerning the specifications and plans for, sale, and installation of four Steinway pianos on board the S.S. United States. Some of the correspondence is between the purchasing agent for the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company (where the ship was built) and the retail sales manager for Steinway & Sons. Also, includes notes concerning the specifications with descriptions of wood finishes and prices of the pianos. Some letters discuss fireproofing and waterproofing pianos with metal undercarriages and naugahide bench covers. There is also correspondence between Theodore Steinway and William Francis Gibbs.
